Brighton advance to the next round at Wolves' expense

Albion progress to the next round of the EFL Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Neal Maupay scored the game's only goal late in the first half, as Brighton secured their place in the last 32 of the competition.

Playing perhaps one of their best games of the season, Brighton, who had won just one of their previous seven games in all competitions, were the better side throughout, and could have won by more.

Wolves were poor and failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes against a Brighton side who dominated possession, had more shots, and created more chances.

Maupay's goal came in the 33rd minute, when he found himself through on goal after a pass from Marc Cucurella. The Frenchman took a touch with his left foot to steady himself before rifling the ball into the back of the net with his right.

Wolves had a chance to equalize late on when Fabio Silva found himself through on goal, but the Portuguese forward fired wide of the target.

Brighton held on for the win, and will now face Arsenal in the last 32 of the EFL Cup.
